MEET THE ARTIST

Natalie de Niese

I’m an emerging visual artist based in Melbourne/Naarm. I’ve been studying Visual/Fine Arts at RMIT University since 2018 and I’m in my final semester in the Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art), majoring in Painting. I have exhibited in group shows at RMIT’s School of Art, fortyfivedownstairs gallery and Kingston Arts Centre. I’m currently an Honorary Intern at Blindside Gallery.

My practice predominantly involves painting and drawing, with recent explorations of collaboration and installation. I mainly focus on the human form and abstraction, working with acrylic, charcoal, graphite and fabric. Influenced by my dance background, my work contains themes of movement and performativity. Additional themes explored are feminism, sexuality, mental health and trauma. My practice has developed to provide immersive and considered experiences for the viewers to create a visceral interaction.
